Getting Momentum

As entrepreneurs momentum is almost like air - if you don't have it for long you start to hurt, then slow, then feel like you're dying.

Sometimes though, for a host of reasons, we lose it.  Whether it's our situation, our thinking, neurotransmitters...whatever, we feel like we're standing still.

One of the most effective ways to get that momentum back is finding an obstacle and overcoming it.

In simple newtonian physics you get momentum by turning potential energy (whether in being at the top of the hill, having your spring wound tight or having gas in your tank) into kinetic energy - motion.

Potential energy is found BEHIND and PAST obstacles for entrepreneurs.

  • Finally facing potential failure and launching the project
  • Changing your attitude from worried-about-what-could-happen to let's-see-what-happens.
  • Making the phone call and asking someone experienced how to overcome the problem.
  • Setting a clock for 10 minutes and just asking yourself, what's the real obstacle, then attacking it single-mindedly.
  • Telling the client you want to test something out and giving them the skinny on the new concept.
  • Facing the tough conversation.  Send out the email with a time to talk about it.

Get momentum by taking an effective action - overcoming an obstacle.
